Have just been advised I need a new stop/start button on my 2019 Kodiaq 1.5 Tsi. Less than 20000 miles. Apparently it’s a common fault. If so, why no recall? Been quoted over £200 to supply and fit

No recall because it doesn't affect everyone.

I assume you didn't take the extended warranty?

How long have you had the car? Assuming it's always been serviced at Skoda and serviced according to their schedule then if it;s a Skoda main dealer that's telling you it's a common fault then despite being ourside of warranty, I'd be contacting Skoda UK and arguing obviously the part was inherently faulty at the point of manufacture. II'd be asking would they consider contributing to the replacement cost a gesture of goodwill. If they say no, I'd then be contacting the supplying dealer and saying that you'll recoup the full costs of replacement via small claims.

If the car doesn't have a full main dealer service history then you're pretty much stuffed.
