How to get 4G to feed the infotainment/hotspot?

Post by OlivierW11 » Sat Apr 22, 2017 7:15 pm

So now that we have confirmed there's no Sim slot in our UK car, how about using a USB stick 4G and stick in any sim card that has unlimited data plan?

some to be found for around 60 quid.

What do you guys think?

Be careful! Not all are working with VAG infotainment systems.

Why not use a mobile 4G wifi dongle? It can work as a hotspot for your car and mobile devices. I use one while on holidays abroad and very happy with the connection speed.

I have one of those and the battery life is horrendously bad. Hence thinking of removing the sim and putting it in a compatible dongle...

Keep us posted but I'd say with the dongle plugged in all the time to USB it would be ok no?

I have turned on the hotspot on my mobile as I have a 24gb data allowance. When it connects to the phone it works great

checking Skoda doc and safe bet would be the Carstick ( ref (000 051 409C) - at least you'd be sure it's supported and recognized by the columbus

But seems pricey enough ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Volkswagen-000 ... 51+409C%29
