Engine undertray bolts

Post by shep » Fri May 22, 2020 9:37 am

Does anyone know the size of the engine undertray bolts for the edition 2L TDI 190? Mine have both come out and the tray is flapping all over the place and all the Skoda dealerships seem to be shot. Any help would be appreciated I'm wondering if there an M8 bolt but not sure of length etc

I had a similar issue with my previous car when I drove over a fallen branch. I drove directly to a local independent garage and they fixed it in minutes if not seconds (!) after they had lifted the car so I suspect it is a standard part. It cost me a tenner I think. What I would say is I think these bolts are designed to shear so I would not put any bolt in there, I think it needs to be not metal and able to fail reasonably easily, not least because the bolt needs to fail rather than what the bolt is screwed into, but I am ready to be corrected.

Thanks Silverbear. I'm pretty sure they are metal but that's only based on the fact they use a steel M8 20mm with a blue threadlock compound on the Octavia and Fabia. There are traces of the blue. Here's a pic of my holes

Dealerships may be closed but I should think Skoda UK Helpline is still available. I would give them a call.

All credit to my local dealership, Wings Skoda of Peterborough (closed at the moment); got a call from Justin Wing, owner, half an hour ago. He'd picked up my message asking for advice - I drove round and he fitted the three new bolts.
Happy ending!

Yes, I'd be interested to know that too but if metal, are they regular metal bolts or "undertray metal bolts" which might be built to shear off. The undertray is likely plastic, I think it was on my VW, so one would expect the bolt to fail before the undertray rips apart with the bolt still in place.

The bolts are metal M8 star head bolts. The are fitted with thread lock too. My dealer did not tighten them post service and I heard the tray knocking.
