Kodiaq VRS 68 Plate - Engine fans staying on......

Post by Vipertyper » Sat Feb 08, 2020 5:17 pm

Hi all,

Wandered if any fellow Kodiaq owners espically VRS owners have similar issues in that short journey 2-3 mile to family so engine won’t of got warm really but then the engine fans kept running for good 5-6 mins after switch off and locking.

Nothing on dash ref filter recharge etc so do t think it’s that nor any coolant or oil lights and oil gauge is not high.

Could also smell as if it was hot too if that makes sense.

It maybe just normal but wander if anyone got any ideas or similar experiences?

Thanks

The fans running is clear signs of an active DPF regeneration and is normal on diesel Skoda car.
To comply with the latest emission levels diesels have to capture the large soot particles and burn them up into smaller particles which are kept in the DPF, this process is called regeneration.
A lot of regenerations take place during normal driving where the exhaust is hot enough to burn the soot in the DPF and are unnoticed and are known as passive regeneration.
When the temperature in the DPF is not hot enough for an passive regeneration, the ECU injects diesel into the DPF which burns up the soot and is known as an active regeneration. When you stop the car part way through an active regeneration, often the car smells like it's burning and the engine fan will stay on to cool the car.
Lots of very short journeys are not good for a Diesel engine DPF.

Thanks Kenny sounds like that, should you tell on dash thats what is happening? Ie any lights or warning at all?

Just to try and be 100% that is what it is :)

Thanks

The car doesn't say it's regenerating the DPF or anything when it's doing so. Just means you need to spend some time on the highway to regenerate it.
