Post by Colin Lambert » Thu Aug 09, 2018 9:15 am

HM STOOPID 'Gumment are now considering banning VANS from town centres they expect deliverers to unload their diesel van in the outskirts and put them on smaller electric vehicles. Dept of Transport has FINALLY LOST THE PLOT!

Do you have a link to what the government are actually proposing, rather than the alarmist hyperbole published by a website that has a vested interest in both promoting the sale of petrol and diesel, and driving traffic to their website?

We’ve just got back from driving around Europe and noticed that many European cities already use electric vans for deliveries in the historic parts of their city centres, and heavily restrict private traffic. It seems to work pretty well - perhaps another example of Europe just getting on with it and doing a good job of it compared to our attitude of trying to resist any change.

Can't find any HMG web site comment.
But on Googling it you can take your pick from the following. (which I haven't read, for lack of time)

Great for the people living in cities. Less exhaust fumes and less engine noise.
Not so great for the rural people who will have a nuclear power plant or a wind farm built in their back garden to power these vans.

Couriers and the like have had a long time to sort their shit out. TNT have been running these four years. They need more of them.
It's not OK to keep polluting when we have other means Colin.
