Exterior Vinyl trim cleaning

Post by bother » Thu Jun 14, 2018 5:26 pm

Has anyone tried using anything other than soap & water to clean the vinyl bodywork trim?

I know there are lots of specific products but from experience on a previous car (mini) once you start applying you have to keep doing it as it runs/washes off and fades quite quickly.

Thoughts?

Recommendations?

I use Meguiars APC 10:1 to clean it, then maybe some water based trim dressing (Chemical guys VRP) or some synthetic wax.

I use Meguiar's G12664EU NXT Generation Car Wash for washing and wax it with Autoglym Express Wax which smells like banana milkshake.

Do you wax the vinyl trim? In previous experience wax just 'stains' the vinyl white so I try not to go near it with the wax.

I don't avoid the trim, and with this wax I've not noticed any discoloration of the trim, but I am not going on the record as saying anyone should apply with abandon.
I am also not claiming that this will restore your trim. It just makes the trim repel water and hopefully dirt.

I think I know what you mean. In a previous life I have used turtle wax on cars and that stuff you definitely need to keep of your trim work.

Perhaps I misunderstood the question. I have not procured any special item for the upkeep of the trim.

Just avoid carnauba based paste waxes on vinyl trim, they leave white spots ;)

Thanks guys. Great tips, and yes, it would have been carnuba wax that I used previously and stained the vinyl trim
