Gosh Colin, that's an eclectic mix. Some interesting cars in amongst that lot.

And what did the psychiatrist say Colin when you told him/her of your compulsive car buying?
The free wheel Old Man was a bit hairy.......I was a fairly new driver and engaging it saved petrol but lost engine braking. Considering the brakes weren`t up to much and I hadn`t taken a driving test...........................

I remember that - hairing south on the A1 and approaching a roundabout - take foot off the accelerator and the bloody car would speed up instead of slowing down !!
These young'uns nowadays don't realise how easy they've got it ;)

My list is in my signature, however to add more detail (and in keeping with the theme of this thread) my first car was the Vauxhall Astra Mk1 1.3S, inherited from my sister when she went off to travel around the world for 2+1/2 years, and is undoubtedly the worst car I have ever owned.

I got it just after I finished university in 1991 and seeing as it was only 8 years old at that point, it was pretty much done. It was finished in a disgusting shade of beige (well, the bits that weren't already rusty!) with beige velour seats which would wreck my back on any journey over about 30 minutes.

It died when it decided to go bang and dump all of the oil onto the fast lane of the M4 at around 1130pm when I was moving back to my parents, so I had all my worldly possessions stacked to the roof in the back. Not a happy experience as the RAC also let me down by not turning up after the first call on the roadside SOS phone ("Sorry sir, we were trying to ring you back!" - the phone was 600m away and it was raining!) A 3 hour wait for the RAC ensued with two more phone calls, during which I told them I would need at least a tow truck when the RAC man in a van turned up, took one look under the bonnet and said "you need a tow truck..."! Yes, I told you that myself! Another 2 hour wait then 3 hours back along the M4 and I finally got home at 8am.

After that I sold it to an apprentice mechanic for £350 who said he was going to fit a reconditioned engine, but I knew the gearbox was also pretty shot and the rear suspension wasn't great...

Sadly no photos survive, but not really worth having them anyway...

My Freewheel experience was the worst motoring happening of my life, including covering 1/4 of a mile of the Bere Regis by-pass whilst driving my BSA C10 whilst ASLEEP! Or turning my company Capri on it's side (proven not to be my fault) with my 8 year old son in the back with no rear seat belts in those days.

The Rover tale was that I was driving up to Brum with my girl friend.
Going down a slight incline at about 45-50mph, I took my eyes off the road for a split second. looked up to be confronted by the rear of a stationary 1948 Standard 8, a tiny car against my 2 ton Rover. He was tail end charlie of a stationary queue which went under a railway bridge with a left hand bend and double white lines. (no view past the bridge!)
I actually got my bum off the seat by STANDING on the brake pedal.......NOTHING!
I thought, 'hit him up the *rse, break his neck and shunt an unknown number of cars into each other or overtake on the blind bend' I decided on the latter.
I shot under the bridge........ it was road works with luckily a very long overlap on red light, I shot past the oncoming traffic just as it started rolling.
As I pulled into the lay-by to cut the freewheel cable and recover from my (very nearly) bowel moving experience I was greeted by all those I had overtaken with hoots of derision and multiple V signs.
If only they had realized how lucky we had all been that day. The old chap in the long white beard was certainly looking after us all that day

Might as well put my list here for a laugh, but I'm younger than the average Kodiaq owner so it won't take long

G Reg Fiat Uno 45 - still probably the fastest accelerating car I've ever owned on account of the low weight but top speed of 69mph owing to only having 4 years
R Fiat Punto
52 Punto
V Fiat Brava
07 Renault Laguna saloon petrol - great car
56 Renault Laguna saloon diesel - non stop electronics faults
52 Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi - 60mpg even round town, why can't they do that now?!
57 Renault Laguna estate diesel - some electronics issues
56 Skoda Octavia 2.0tdi
14 Skoda Octavia 2.0tdi vrs - best car ever. Wish I'd never sold it and if I could I'd buy it back.
17 Skoda Kodiaq - a few problems. A bit dissapointing, going asap.

The first car I had a 'go at' was a 1960 Skoda Octavia, red with white interior! It simply rotted away The heater was amazing, you opened two flaps and the heat poured out. Replaced the windscreen with a Ford Thames replacement. My first drive on proper roads was in a Vauxhall Cresta 3.3, brilliant car but MPG was rubbish.
Hillman Imp came next, found that I drove it all week and repaired it on a weekend, sick of this I bought a brand new Skoda Estelle. I could go on but I won't.
