Hey. It's Ross Kemp and he's about to tear one out of some poor soul.
Gotta be worth a watch.

Joking aside, the 2nd button I press (after ignition) is the "disable the automatic start / stop system".
And I am getting quite good at remembering to do so.

I find I can control the start / stop somewhat in the same way that is possible with the Autohold. I find it useful as it does not kick in all the time for me as it seems to for others for some reason?

EDIT: Used 'I' and 'me' a lot in post to re-iterate that it boils down to individual driving style in 'my' opinion

Good entertainment if nothing else.
I hate SS, always have. I asked Audi about disabling it and the answer came back from Germany "No".
So turning it off is part of my pre-flight checks every time I get in the car

At least you didn’t post this on the “other” forum. Start/ stop is a delicate subject at the moment. :D
Oh, and I switch mine off, only flicking it back on if we’re going to be held up for a while.

Thanks for posting this Colin - both interesting and amusing.
When monitoring the mpg around town it feels nice not to see the mpg plummet when stopped at lights but from this video seems that is a bit false. At least he doesn’t think wear and tear on starter system and battery is much of a problem !

If it wasn't prone to turning off when I was still moving and taking my steering with it I'd leave it on. Until that gets fixed it'll always be switched off in my car.

I’m confused. He seems to argue that engines use hardly any fuel when idling and you save no fuel by stopping the engine when stationary. But then he also argues that start/stop only exists so car manufacturers can game the system and reduce fuel consumption on tests, by stopping the engine when stationary. You can’t have it both ways. If it saves manufacturers fuel during the test when stationary, it’s surely also going to save you fuel when stationary? If it doesn’t save manufacturers fuel when stationary, they wouldn’t go to the expense of engineering a stop start system?
