17 or wait for 67 plate

Post by Blackwhite » Tue Aug 22, 2017 6:44 pm

Hi guys.

I bought my Kodiaq on Personal Purchase Contract and this is my first time buying car this way.
The question is .... should I wait for 67 plate or go for 17? Car just arrived to my Dealer and is ready for pick up on Thursday with 17 plate. If I wait till 4th of September it will come with 67 plate.
I am planning to change Kodiaq for another car after my contract end. Will 67 plate keep better value when changing or it doesn't matter?
Sorry for my English, I am not native English speaker.

For the sake of a week and a bit, I'd wait for the 67 plate.

Yes, 17 plate will drop its value next week.

I would have thought it depended on the PCP terms. If you have a guaranteed future value does it matter? If you wanted to flick the car on quickly it might make a bit of difference, but in three or so years time would it make that much difference? There is a vanity factor to driving out in a new plate on day one certainly, but it is only temporary. The car is there . . . what are you waiting for? !!!

AndyH - thanks.
Yes I have guaranteed feature value but as far as I know when buying another VAG car after PPC end I can get an extra discount for a new car (on the top pf guaranteed price) - depend what mileage my old car has, what condition is etc and maybe Plate give another value to it.

I didn't wait as I have a personal contract hire so I will never own or have any financial interest in the vehicle. It also worked out allot cheaper so I win all round, no fear of residual values or negative equity either.

If it was PCP I would wait however the Dealer said that the majority of buyers get confused about 17 and 57 plates anyway, I found that surprising.
It's a 'Kodiaq' and not a 'Bear' unless you are 5 years old.

I was in the same situation.

After having my car delayed & mothballed half built for 5 weeks due to lack of rear seats in the factory, I told my dealer I wouldn't accept delivery during August & would wait for 67 plates on the 1st Sept.

My car arrived at dealers on the 9th, received call from dealer to see if I wanted it then. Obviously I reaffirmed my position regarding plates & that I would wait. An hour later get another call, his manager needs the car gone. They haven't really got the space to store it for 4 weeks apparently, offered me another £1000 discount if I took it then. So I collected on 14th.

Blackwater be careful with PCP amd don't fall for the spin. you will only get that 'extra discount' if the actual value of the car at the end of the term is higher than the contract guarantee value, and it might not be. Also if it is, the best way to realise it is to buy it and sell privately, not accept the dealers offer.

Definitely wait for 67 plate. You should be able to get it next Friday (1/9/17). It'll be worth £1000+ more in two years than a 17 plate
