Help Needed - Headrest question!

Hi everyone... I’m brand new to this forum and so not sure I’m even posting a question properly so please be kind...

I have a 2017 Kodiak 4x4 7 seater. About 2 years ago I left my dog in the car and forgot to disable the alarm. Long story short... I no longer have a middle headrest on the back seat.

My interior is cream leather... I’m looking to try and replace the headrest... but I’m having the hardest time sourcing. As it’s the middle headrest I considered trying to find a “universal” option or even a part from a similar vehicle in the family...Octavia, Fabia... or even VW, Audi... etc? But no idea what would fit or are all cars different.

I’ve tried a few “247 breakers/ salvage” options online but. It been lucky... that’ll teach me to have a cream interior

Any pointers or advice would be much appreciated!!

I jest!. Hard luck. I know the feeling. I had a Labrador that ate BOTH front seats of my Father's car down to the frames and three seats of my company car seats!!
You have done what I would do.
DO you actually NEED a centre headrest? if not, then I would just keep trying the Scrappys.
You could ask your local scrappy if he has any VAG centre headrests and then take yours along to compare the leg spacing. If he has and it is the wrong colour, you can buy leather 'paint' or get an upholsterer to replace the cover.
OR. take the remains to an auto upholsterer and get him to remake it.
Is you local scrapyard in the national system whereby they can find bits all over the country?
My local one (below) is and if they don't have an item they will ask the whole network and if found the supplier will post it to you.
You could ring my chap and see what he can find for you.

I would think the best thing would be to find the OEM part number. Should be stamped/embossed on it somewhere. Then at least a dealer/breaker's yard would be able to search their systems to see if they could find you one. You could always try sending these guys a message to see if they can get you one, although they only seem to list the left/right headrests:

This is just a thought. Would find it strange if there was a specific headrest manufactured for Kodiaq middle seat, therefore perhaps worth looking at breaker yards for other Skoda middle headrests?

The biggest problem as you say is going to be colour match but I'd be paying a visit to Skoda dealership ( when they open again ) and try a few different centre headrests from other models to see how well they fit.

Not going to let you off so easily tho with 'long story short'. You've got me intrigued - what has 'forgot to set alarm' have to do with your dog destroying a headrest? Come on, spill it out, long story please

Following on from my above post, if you can find a Karoq rear headrest to try and it fits then...

Look at the 2020 Karoq Edition ( blue ) that's being broken for spares - it has beige leather and according to their parts list, the rear seats are still in the car.

Might be worth a punt?

When I said try a Karoq headrest in a Kodiaq I wasn't thinking properly. I have a MY20 Karoq and a MY21 Kodiaq sitting outside

So I've just tried the centre Karoq headrest in the Kodiaq.

The good news is that it fits. The bad news ( slightly bad new perhaps ) is the metal indentations used to hold the headrest in place are on the opposite side of the post. The indentation is on the outside of the metal post on the Kodiaq whereas it's on the inside of the Karoq.

So if you want a headrest then yes it'll fit, but if you want to raise it and hold it in position then no, it won't fit.

Wow, I'm amazed that Skoda would go to the trouble of changing the design that subtly. In this day of 'parts-bin' design where many hidden parts are common across so much of the entire VAG range, it's surprising that they would change something as small as the orientation of one post of the centre rear headrest! Not questioning you, Jamie, just commenting that it's surprising that Skoda wouldn't use the same part as often as possible as that ought to pay dividends on economy of scale.

That said, would it be possible to also change the part that's in the top of the seat (i.e. the 'hole' that it slots into)? I know you can get these, and would think that they're pretty much a common design other than the Karoq one has the spring release on the other side? It may be that these are indeed identical between Karoq and Kodiaq, they're just fitted the opposite way around? It might even be possible for the OP to take out the one in his car and then refit it the other way round?

This all assumes he can source a Karoq centre headrest and not a Kodiaq one in the first place...

I fully expected them to be the same too.

The posts on the Kodiaq headrest are about an inch longer. I dunno, perhaps Skoda do use a universal fitment but the Karoq post just doesn't go down far enough on a Kodiaq seatback for the lock to engage. I'm not about to disassemble my seats to find out

The Karoq headrest will adjust and stay in place (when the car is stationary at least) but it won't lock in to place.

Out of interest (and to help Alle2142), is there any sign of a Skoda part number stamped on it? It might help him in sourcing a replacement?
