New Kodiaq on order, what extras?

Post by Gaffa4000 » Sat Nov 07, 2020 12:56 pm

My original Kodiaq Edition has just had its 3rd year service and MOT and whilst speaking with the dealership have managed to get a great deal on a new car!

Just ordered a Kodiaq Sportline, Meteor Grey 1.5TSi with panoramic roof and spare wheel. This won’t be ready until the new plates are out in March.

Has anyone had any extras put on their car that they’d recommend or not bother with for that matter?

Thanks 👍🏼

Take it you find the reversing camera useful?

Yea it works well and also has a washer pointed at it so it cleans it which is very good. The wife esp likes it. I wouldn’t use it to reverse alone but useful to keep an eye on. Went for the race blue colour as I have always liked it. In total went for Canton, spare wheel(comes as part of canton) virtual cockpit, towbar, sunroof and family pack and rear camera.

Jeez. I picked up my car during the week - race blue 1.5DSG Sportline with Canton, spare, VC, sunroof and family pack  I also added auto parking as I seem to be one of the few people who actually uses it. Also added personalisation.

OP - I'd add rear camera.

I never needed camera on Octavia estate as it had rear cross traffic alert ( something I wish was available as an option on it's own ). That car also had self parking so I never missed the camera. A camera came as std on our Karoq, which also has rear traffic alert, and I hardly ever use it. My thinking was I'd never use it on the kodiaq either, but if I did want it, it could be retro-fitted at a later date. Well, after spending a week with my car, I'm going to have it retro-fitted. The problem is the Kodiaq is much higher than any car I've driven, but the rear window is pretty narrow so that when you are reversing, there's quite a large area in the blind spot. When I reverse I can't see the bonnet of the car behind me. The rear parking sensors are invaluable but I still wish I'd gone for the rear camera on this car.

If you like music then Canton is a steal at £420. It's much improved over the MY20 and earlier system.

VC was a last minute decision for me but so glad I opted for it. You don't need it of course, but it is impressive.

The sunroof does let loads of light in, and fresh air. I'm really glad I chose it, especially with the black headlining in the Sportline, but appreciate that it's bloody expensive.

The big benefit of personalisation is it only costs £45 but gives you an extra spare key, so if the worst happens and you happen to loose one, the no worries and no hundreds of pounds for a replacement. The downside to personalisation on the MY21 is it's too fuc&*!ng complicated for it's own good. Had it in my Octavia and it was pretty straightforward to use, but there's been a software update on the MY21 cars and it's been a pain in the butt to setup. In retrospect, I wish I'd hadn't opted for it.

If you haven't actually bought the car yet then I'd strongly suggest you build the car you want on DriveTheDeal. The prices there have come down since I ordered my car in August. You can get a well equipped 1.5tsi Sportline for under £30k now.

I didn't choose the options on my car as I bought an unregistered car from stock back in January 2019, however things I've got that I wouldn't bother with:
1. Traffic Sign Recognition - it's rubbish and often tells you the incorrect speed limit as it sees road signs on side roads. I've even seen it consistently pass numerous 40 signs whilst telling me the speed limit is either 60 or 30...
2. High Beam Assist - it's totally rubbish as it often fails to see oncoming cars and you end up getting flashed by irate drivers who you are blinding. If you turn on the auto high beam (with a single push of the left stalk) then it's impossible to turn off the high beam assist unless it's actually on high beam. i.e. if it's on dipped with the auto high beam symbol on the dash, pushing or pulling the stalk only flashes the high beam, it doesn't turn the auto function off. You can get around it by double pushing forward on the stalk when you first turn on the high beam, but it's then not in auto mode, it's up to you to dip your lights, so what's the point? Thoroughly disappointed that with full LED headlights, they're not properly adaptive/intelligent, unlike my wife's 2015 Merc C Class. On the Merc you can just leave your headlights on high beam all of the time and it will never blind oncoming cars and "shapes" the beam to effectively create a "box" around either oncoming cars or the tail lights of cars you're following. Sadly not available on the Kodiaq, even though there are plenty of cars within the VAG fold that have this as a feature, so it's not like they don't have the technology to make it work.
3. Rough Road Pack - never likely to take my car any further than a grassy field, so not sure it's something I'd ever add.

Things that I've got that I wouldn't be without:
1. Adaptive Cruise Control - fantastic once you understand how to operate it and how it's likely to behave. Makes driving much, much safer imho.
2. Panoramic Roof - with an all black interior, this is essential for me and it's nice to open the roof in the summer.
3. Electrically Deployable Towbar - much better solution than the manually removable one I had on my last car, which was a bit of a pain. Need one for the rear-mounted bike carrier and trailer I use.
4. Rear View Camera - it's a very long car and it's really useful. You can back up to within about an inch of touching a car behind, which is a real bonus. Sensors alone will not let you get so close.

Things I wish I had:
1. Virtual Cockpit - don't really need it, I'd just like it.
2. Heated Steering Wheel - sounds frivolous, but in the winter don't knock it until you've tried it! Had one on my last car and it was wonderful on a freezing morning!
3. Heated Rear Seats - not essential, but it would stop the kids moaning about not having heated seats, which are only in the front!

Hope that helps if you're still looking to add some options!

Thanks for the replies so far! Think I’ll be adding the virtual cockpit and possibly a rear camera.

More money 🤣
