insurance? what do you pay?

Post by kodibliaq » Mon Oct 15, 2018 10:42 pm

I have a quote on my new Kodiaq SE of £450 for 8k miles pa, plus business use + legal cover. Is that high? Excess is £500 also! Its half the insurance group of my last car so was expecting better not just fifty quid less than before. I'm +40 yrs old, 12yrs NCD, no points. parked on drive, nice area. Are the days of £300 premiums no more?

For your age that seems excessively high.
Shop around for a better quote. Phone up if you get nowhere on the internet. Get them to explain why it's so high.

You and I are not that dissimilar, yet I pay under £200 with LV.

Your postcode has a massive effect on your premium. You can't really compare with people in different areas.

Last year with AVIVA I paid £248.
This year with AVIVA I paid £211.
Car ~ see signature.
Me 72. (premium start going up a ramp at 75 with Aviva) Max NCD, protected. Clean Licence. (now!!!) 6000miles a year. on drive at BH14 (Poole). AVIVA app 9/10, AVIVA Shareholders discount. Household policy with them as well.
No legal, no hire car, but personal accident cover (which I didn't know I had and don't want. Now off policy!)
Very oddly Big K is group 13. Little K is group 14 and has cost me an extra £25 a year!?
Both these groups seem very low for cars of their type, performance and cost.

Colin's post gave me an idea.

Enter postcode area BN42 (mine) as yours.
See if that makes your quotes drop.

That will tell you if your locality explains the high quotes or if it is something else about your circumstance.
Not much you can do about that unless you are prepared to move, but at least you know where you are (no pun intended).

Interestingly, BH14 post codes are lower premiums than DT9 (Sherborne/Wincanton) where I have friends.
The crime rate and traffic density, there fore 'prang rate' is far higher in Poole than it is in the middle of nowhere in north Dorset.
Perhaps it is the lunatic tractor drivers that force people off the road and into ditches that makes it that way.

Don't crims prefer the country side these days?
Away from prying CCTV and mobile phones and dash cams etc.
And no police presence for miles(¹)

(¹) goes for everyone these days, but had to be mentioned to make the argument stronger ;-)

I didn't enter my details online or anything. My quote was from the same company that Skoda used for my 5 day driveaway insurance. Who is LV ?
