Winter tyres and spare rims

Post by Italy Paul » Thu Oct 12, 2017 9:58 am

Hi all, I have been driving my Kodiaq for 4 months and absolutely love it. What an amazing car. I need to put winter tyres on and thought I would get spare rims as well. My mechanic here thinks I need to get rims compatible with the tyre pressure sensors. Is that correct or will any rims do? What does a cheap set of rims cost for tyres of this size, 215/65/17” 99V ? On my last car I had 1 set of rims and each year he swapped them over. Any thoughts?

I thought the tyre pressure sensor worked by sensing the rotations of the tyre. I.e. when the diameter changes it will rotate differently.
I don't believe there's anything special about the rims. It will be taking data from the abs system.
There is a setting in the car infotainment to reset the pressure warning, which does the calibration. You need to do it after changing the pressure in the tyres, and probably if you change the Rim sizes etc.

Correct, it doesn't use tyre pressure sensors.

Hi Paul,

I've just fitted my winters on, came from skoda on a set of 17 inch steel wheels, to be fair they are not true winters but crossclimet tyres, for uk use these are fine and I've fancied trying them for a while and as skoda were paying I thought why not.
They are just standard wheels no pressure sensors and they are fine.

You don't have a part number for the wheels do you?

Seen a few people saying Skoda was paying, how did you pull that off?

Hi Andy EE

I don't but I believe they are just standard skoda superb 17's

As for free, well when I ordered my car Skoda delayed my build by 3 months (which I was ok with actually) and gave me a £500 voucher to spend so I put it towards a second set of wheels and tyres.

Thank you Skoda!

I didn’t think Škoda made 17” steel wheels?

All Superbs use alloy wheels apart from the spare when ordered... but they are either 16” for all but the 220 / 280 which use the skinny space saver which IIRC are 18”

Mine came directly from the dealer, with hub caps.

Is there not a VAG part number stamped on them anywhere?

Thanks
