Kodiaq GPS incorrect location

Post by Ke57 » Mon Jan 06, 2020 1:57 pm

2018 Kodiaq 1.4 DSG edition. The Satnav was working but now its showing an incorrect location. I've downloaded latest maps & turned it off & on again but no luck GPS is showing an incorrect location about 200 mtrs out making satnav useless.

Anyone any ideas on resetting GPS?

Have you tried to reset it to factory settings?

That might do it.
It's a 'Kodiaq' and not a 'Bear' unless you are 5 years old.

Yep I've tried that, booked in for Monday. I can at least use Android Auto in the meantime.
Note it's now around 1.5 miles out of synch!

KE57 reported a similar problem with his Kodiaq on 30th December. Updating Maps will do no good. It has to be either the GPS satellite system, or the car's SatNav software that is malfunctioning. My two survey GPS kits are working OK, so it would seem that your SatNav software is at fault.
A system reset or a system update might be the answer.

Thanks I tried a factory reset via the info system which didn't fix it. Is there anything else I can try, can I force a software update somehow?

I am not familiar with the Columbus system, (TomTom fan I'm afraid!), but can you interrogate the system to see how many satellites you are picking up and their positions in the sky? If you have four or fewer satellites, or the satellites you are picking up are not evenly positioned around the sky, you will not get an accurate fix.

Thanks but I can't see a way of doing that. Google maps via android auto is ok, so I don't think so. I will update after the visit to garage. Was hoping to find a way to reset it & save me taking it into garage..

Not sure this helps but it was posted on here back in the day.

Seems like it’s could require a GPS module reset, never even heard of one of those.

Sounds like Skoda techs need to do it.

I've got this as well, intermittently. Even thought the location might be correct I can always tell there's an issue as the elevation doesn't change as I drive (it's hilly in Wales!) & eventually the location goes to some random place.

Been in twice to the dealers. 1st time it went to the selling dealer & they did a 'reset' which solved nothing. 2nd time to a different dealer as it was in to have a tow bar fitted & they fitted a new GPS antenna, then a new GPS wire. Unfortunately I still get the same issue. Need to get it booked back in, when I get time! The 2nd dealer seems much better at helping out.

Can see how many sats it's got either in Nav screen or Home. In Nav do a Split screen and change the view in the window to Position.
