Have had my dream machine for almost a week now and can honestly say (so far) it is the favourite of all the cars I have had.
Previous motors were: Citroen AX, Ford Escort, VW Golf tdi Mk 3, VW Passat SE, VW Passat Sport, Audi A3 SE DSG, Honda CRV, Audi A3 Sport Quattro and Skoda Superb Elegance 4x4. Of those the ones that push the Kodiaq close are the CRV (good driving position, economic and versatile)and the Passat SE (slightly underpowered 1.6 petrol was my first big (luxury to me) motor and the 'comfort seats' were the best.)
This DSG box is more advanced than the Audi was 12 years ago. It coasts when not under load and re-engages gear at the tough of throttle or brake and it presumably has a sensor as it knocks itself into a lower gear for engine braking if you have reduced speed down a hill and don't touch the throttle.
I welcome the return of the elevated driving position which is on a par with the Land Rover (baby) Discovery but sits well below a Range Rover!
The seats are comfy and the ride is good (way better than my Superb Elegance which was very hard). Motoring reports were slating the ride on the 18" wheels they were given as firm and that the steering was woolly and I must admit to having reservations about the 19's this comes with but being unable to reduce the wheel size on my order had to make do and to be honest they are fine. Not sure what the journo's were on about! Yes the steering is light but it's not that vague and you wouldn't throw a vehicle of this size round corners anyway.
I couldn't get connected to Skoda SmartGate and after a visit to my local dealer it was apparent my vehicle didn't have the external sim card slot required. They reckoned it uses 10gb of data a month reporting vehicle status online so you can access it later through the app. I can live without that. What it does have is Skoda Connect which consists of 3 buttons in the roof for contacting customer services, reporting a breakdown or reporting an accident the latter of which I think may be automatic in the event of airbag deployment. This doesn't need an external sim. There is a Connect option on the screen menu but not exactly sure what that is for and it keeps coming up "no connection".
The DAB radio seems to hold more channels than my Superb and the bigger screen is an improvement although a good portion is actually used for the side menu options. Still looks better than my old one.
So far so good. I couldn't stop grinning on my way home from work on Friday as that is where it was delivered. Yet to have a long drive but due to take a trip from Yorkshire to Essex in a few weeks and are away in North Yorkshire this weekend so will see how it goes on long-distance.
Extended wait for me due to cock up on the paperwork front but it was worth it in the end!
