Black on a Budget (SE model)

Post by suniil » Thu Nov 23, 2017 7:40 pm

Ordered the car trusting only the forums & the review by Thomas (Autogefühl). Never seen one physically either until a week before the delivery. Got it 3 weeks ago and done 600 miles or so.

I'm driving a petrol car after a very long time. Had a Nissan Juke prior to Kodiaq - other than the normal rattles, almost tractor like sound, hard plastic everywhere & tiny space everything was just fine. I enjoyed a lot driving the JUKE, very punchy and responsive without spending a lot on Diesel (was around 51mpg)

Then the KODIAQ - world apart from Nissan. Beautiful, decent interiors, spacious without sacrificing passenger space (including front passenger leg space whilst carrying long items)., quiet / almost silent engine and totally rattle free

90% of my driving is on Motorway - If I drive economically I can get around 45mpg and if driving normally it goes down to 40mpg or so. If I'm in hurry and want to hit 80mpg or so mileage drops to 37 mpg or so. In city traffic I gets around 34mpg.

And then - my driveway is only 5metre long, which is very steep. There is no room for error - first few times, the car rolled back a bit as I was driving big K just like Juke. Now it feels just okay, but need to push hard on accelerator pedal to avoid roll back.

--- otherwise all good and pretty happy with my choice. Thanks everyone who shared their experience.

Re: Kodiaq - DashCam installation

Post by suniil » Thu Nov 23, 2017 8:03 pm

First thing I did after taking the delivery of car was Dash Camera installation. The camera I used is AUKEY DR-01. Routing the cable was easier than I thought, thanks to the members who posted tips and detailed run through. Removing the dampener was easy but the side latches (first - left pic) given me a lot of trouble. It is supposed to be a straight forward process, but for some reason I found it difficult (YMMV)

Well done! Enjoy.
For anyone else hard wiring a dash cam>>>>>>>>
The push catches on the glove box lid are a pain, the best way to do it is pull the door one way and then on the other side insert a very thin, wide knife blade. Then you have to pull the door down as far as it will go to stop it re-engaging and repeat the knife trick on the other side.

Thank you Colin.

I've decided to put a new camera that directly fix to windscreen to avoid any possible vibrations transmitted via mount. This one also has wider coverage area (Included few frames from the video clip)
