I am looking at changing my tyres on my Edition for a more suitable off road type.
On my previous Tiguan I used General Grabber AT which I found very good. The problem is tbey don't do a 235/50/R19. The nearest is 235/55/R19. Any thoughts on whether this slightly deeper tyre would cause any problems.

235/55/R19 should be okay but make sure you account for the speed difference. Can you get your tyre shop to do a test fit?

if you want to maximise the off road ability you need to get as much cushion as possible, which means go to 17" rims, I fitted 235/60R17 all terrain tires (OE diameter). I know that 235/65R17 also fits, but throws the speedometer off by ~4%
Off road, you need to air down the tires to increase traction and contact patch area for sand. You really cannot air down low profile tires as you will be riding on the rim. best get some steel wheels for off road which also save money.
