Hello

I am probably not the only one who have received the 2.0 tsi 140kw my19.

Mine is 1 week old today. I have not been driving alot since pickup, but I am a bit dissapointed about the feel at low speed. Not so smooth gear changes (and many of them) and slow speeder reaction. Sometimes jumpy. I am wondering if the car automatically goes to extreme eco-mode at speeds below maybe 60 km/h.

Does anyone have similar experiences?

Put a few hundred miles on the Kodiaq over the last few days with a mixture of A road, motorway and twisty B roads as part of a family trip, average MPG for the trip was 33.9mpg which given the car being new and heavily loaded isn't too bad but still short of what I hope it will be as an average.

Car is a great motorway cruiser, handling wise its not a sports car but it coped with the twisty roads relatively well.

Downside is it has reinforced my initial thinking, the DSG gearbox is crap and engine is very gruff over 4K rpm - not much point in going that far though as there isn't a lot of go, engine is much better suited to low speed lugging where it has plenty of torque and feels much quieter - wonder if removing the under bonnet sound deadening the 180TSI had makes the 190TSI feel noisier.

Engine note I can live with, gearbox I couldn't, i'm now grateful the Kodiaq is my wifes daily driver and not mine as I couldn't live with it every day.

I have the 190 DSG all whistles and bells, almost all, it was a ex demo ,2800 on the clock, It now has 7500 in July 2 years old, I have owned it 19months. It is the first automatic I have owned, I love it.
I bought it for pulling my caravan, it does it effortlessly , its very quiet, smooth, very quick when not with the van. It is not as economical as I thought, but the ride, the comfort, the room, more than compensates for the economy . I have tried the other drive mode settings, but leave it in normal, its given a few BMWs a fright. :D

No you dont. You either have 2.0 tsi with 180bhp or a diesel with 190bhp. Both with a different gearbox than the one in 2.0 tsi 190bhp.

The worst bit for me is encouraging it to actually get off the line within a second or two of me pressing the accelerator (delay from a standstill is intolerable). Only way around it would be to hold it on the brake with the left foot whilst pressing the accelerator in anticipation of moving which I can't imagine would be good for a clutch....

I don't think its an issue per se, just the way its been programmed in the Kodiaq as its the same gearbox as in the Golf R (the DQ381).

Nothing wrong with it at all if you want a nice relaxing drive, but if you want something sporty then you have to stick it in sport mode (both gearbox and drive mode select) and even then you need to preload the gearbox to get it to move when you want it to from a standstill. In sport mode etc, once its moving its fine. Manual mode is fine whilst moving but same problem trying to get out of a junction quickly etc when stationary.

I've not really noticed anything bad to shout out about at all. It's been very pleasant to drive and I've found if I've put my foot down it's more than responsive. Granted I've only had it for a week but I'm happy so far!

Anybody else aquired the 2l 190 TSI this week, just about to place an order for an LK and would love to hear other experiences.

No criticism's thus far with 300 miles on the clock! All working beautifully and smoothly. My previous car was a 2014 Jaguar XF Sportbrake 3.0 S Diesel with an 8 speed auto box and the Kodiaq is fine in comparison.

Mine is really jerky often when driving slow at a pace of around 15-18 mph.

Interesting review of the L&K 2.0TSI on the Autoexpress website:

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/kodiaq/106342/new-skoda-kodiaq-lk-review

Point of interest is their comment about the gearbox:-

"Our car's petrol engine is incredibly quiet, and around town the DSG box takes the strain out of stop-start traffic. The transmission isn't as proficient when you ask for sudden bursts of acceleration, but rewards gentle driving with seamlessly smooth shifts."

That pretty much matches my findings.

Thanks Tricky, I'm picking my 19 plate SE L 2.0 TSI 190 up on Saturday all being well, and all is quite quiet on negative reviews so fingers crossed.

I'll pop a review up post collection to see how it compares to the outgoing VRS TDI DSG Octy.

I'm quite a sedate driver now so I'm hoping it suits my style, I'm looking for a moving armchair rather than going round corners on 2 wheels.

Thanks again

i thought you said the DSG gearbox is crap & you couldn't live with it & your glad it's your wife's car?
Didn't see autoexpress say it was crap? only you!
@Aardvark, the sel 2.0tsi is a lovely refined drive and the cabin is a nice place to be, you won't be disappointed with the Kodiaq unlike some on here.

@wheelwright

If you want a spirited drive then I'm afraid it (the gearbox) is crap, its not the first magazine to point out the way the gearbox is configured is in contrast to the rather nice way the Kodiaq actually drives. If you want a more relaxed drive or don't expect to (or need to) get out of junctions quickly then its absolutely fine.

To me the gearbox is a major disappointment given the rest of the car (I entirely agree about the interior being lovely) and it would irritate me too much on a daily basis.

Had my tsi 180 for nearly a year now. I find driving it very comfortable and relaxing. Gearbox suits me as I tend to be a cruiser and use it mainly for long motorway journeys. You may be able to describe kick-down as a bit sluggish but for a cruiser like me, it's fine.

I've tried in sport mode a few times and it is far more responsive and a much firmer ride. Feels like it could be fun but as I say, normal drive mode suits my driving.

Who buys the kodiaq for a spirited drive?
For what the car is it does its job brilliantly, quiet, refined and smooth.
I've only put 300 miles on mine so far but I've had no issues when pulling out, I've driven in sports mode & IMHO the car goes well when needed, it's no slouch! but it's not made for speed.
It can only get better with more miles on the clock, but so far I'm a very happy chappie!

I picked up the car today, very smooth, quiet and refined drive - just what I was looking and going for.

It's still very early days but absolutely no hesitation pulling away even with autohold on, and very quick to restart if start / stop engaged. I don't recognise hesitancy issues mentioned here.

LED headlights - great, shame they don't swivel / move like the AFS in the Octy, it just switches the LED fogs on as cornering lights - but to be fair they do a good job.

The DSG box is very quick to change up in normal and is a bit slow to kick down, but has lots of torque and picks up well - I suppose all in the name of emissions/ economy.

The throttle is mapped to give an economic / smooth drive, and I can see the attraction of a peddle box but I don't think it'll be for me with my relaxed driving style.

Haven't had it long enough for the MPG shock yet, but it'll be no worse that the Mitsubishi PHEV I had before the Octy VRS TDI.

Security wise - Easy to inhibit the KESSY when at home, push lock button then touch handle.

ACC - works like magic, will make motorway cruising so much easier.

Looking forward to many happy miles.

We've had the Kodiaq for a couple of weeks now and impressions have been mainly very good. While it replaced a manual car, we also have a 1.4 TSI DSG Superb and, so, we're used to the DSG 'characteristics' and don't have a problem with them. In all, I would say that we have a few negative observations (not that any of them makes us regret getting the car):

  1. Not entirely unexpected (since we use it mainly for short journeys, < 20 miles - many shorter, around town) but the average fuel consumption over 600 miles has been 27 mpg
  2. When you restart the car, it always resets the drive mode to 'normal.' I like normal but prefer the ACC and AC in eco but what is the point in having an individual mode if the car keeps insisting that you must conform to its definition of 'normal'? According to Skoda UK, this is an intended change in behaviour since our Superb was made
  3. The engine is a little more vocal at slow speeds than I was expecting. It is not unpleasant or intrusive - just a little more noise than I was expecting

Having said all that, we both really enjoy the car and would certainly buy it again.
