Hi all,

My first entry on the forum having dipped in several times during the research stage. I have been a VW fan for decades and most recently had 3 Tourans. I thought another would be good but they have withdrawn the 5-seat option and the colour I wanted.

After a very helpful series of test drives arranged with my local dealer, I decided to go for a 5-seat Kodiaq to get the slightly larger spare wheel and duly placed the order. Only to be told a few days later, Skoda no longer offered the 5-seat version. But they didn't tell the dealer nor change their official web site nor update the 'build your own' facility. Not very impressive. :(

After further deliberation, I placed an order for the 7-seat version. I hope it's as good as many postings claim. The current date is around the beginning of April.

Welcome to the forum Rule 55. The loss of the 5 seater is certainly news to me! (5 door? ;) ) I don't think Skoda would be so stupid. I doubt the veracity of the dealers comments. Can't imagine why they should get it so wrong (if in fact they have!!??)
The configurator is showing many 5 seat versions. I suggest you ring Skoda Uk ASAP and ask them. Ask to speak to a Customer Services MANAGER! 0333 003 7504
I had the same problem when I ordered mine in December 2016, before they were even launched . Then they really did NOT do a 5 seat SE L and it cost me £1,000 more for something I didn't want.

Hi Colin,

This was the response I received from Skoda Customer Services:

Dear Rob

Thank you for your recent contact regarding the ŠKODA KODIAQ SE L. Please accept my apologies for the delay in my response.

I am delighted to hear of your interest in the ŠKODA KODIAQ for your next vehicle.

I have discussed your query with our Sales Support Team and they have confirmed that from the 3rd January 2019 the 5 seat SE L and Edition KODIAQ has been removed from ordering. I apologise for any disappointment that this may cause.

Regarding the ŠKODA website still shows this model, is that we still will have some stock vehicles that are built and your local ŠKODA Retailer will be able to assist if any of the remaining vehicles meet your requirements. Contact details of all our ŠKODA Retailers can be found via the link below:

www.skoda.co.uk/find-a-retailer

I hope this information is useful. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us on the number below.

Thank you for contacting ŠKODA UK.

Kind regards

Well Bugga me!!
They are obviously just trying to screw more money out of the poor motorists.
Skoda's logic defies belief sometimes.
Did it have to be an SE L? Unless you are happy with the situation configure a few of the 5 seaters available and see if you can find one that suits. OR conversely, since they say they have some already built in the network, see if your dealer can find one that fits your bill.
Good luck.
I certainly would not spend a grand for something I did not want, if there was an alternative.

The dealer was very helpful and we searched the list of what was available but ACC was a must-have and there were only 2, neither of which was green. So we agreed a suitable revised price but nowhere near a grand :) . I'm happy with the deal but disappointed with VAG - VW having done the same with the Touran. "Nobody wants a 5-seater"

I'm glad all is sorted to your satisfaction. I love the Emerald green, although I have yet to see any emerald that colour! Perhaps the chaps that choose the colours come from St Dunstans! ;)
IMHO.... They are bonkers! I did for a start! Now I have a 'hotwash Kodiaq' 5 seater in the Karoq!

Order placed at the end of January and I'm still at Status 10. I've chased the dealer but without success. The response I received was:
Still showing Status 10, as is all our other customers too. Our admin team are going to speak to their sales office this morning to find out the delivery schedule of the vehicles
As always, I've heard nothing further and I'll have to chase them - again!

Anyone having a similar experience of a placed order not advancing through the Skoda system?

Thanks.

We love our new 7-seater Kodiaq! Most of the time it's in 5-seat mode with a huge boot, but when we need the extra couple of seats, it's great to have them. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Get onto Skoda customer services by phone or live chat on their website. You'll need you 8 digit order number. Never bothered with the dealer as they are not interested once they've got you order!!

Welcome,
You won't be disappointed with the 7 seater I had an edition 7 seater and best thing ever did always handy if you go out and end up having an extra 2 people coming back, I gave mine back today and picked up my VRS KODIAQ 😁

After placing the order on 21 January 2019, I collected it on 26 June 2019. Hooray! :)
So far I am very, very pleased with the car. :D The 5-seater version would have been even better but Skoda snuffed that as reported earlier.
My experience so far? Great car, poor dealer.

The spare wheel is described as 145/85R18. I cannot answer the second part of your question.

That's the standard space saver.

I am confused, if as you say they have discontinued the 5 seat SEL why are they still saying it's available on the configurator? That's been updated now (I think it's the MY20 versin) and the 5 seater is available in SE, SEL and Edition variants.

I was more than confused back in January when I was trying to order a 5 seat SE L. On 17 Jan I contacted Skoda Customer Services to verify what my dealer told me

and this was their reply on 21 Jan:

Maybe they've changed again. If you're considering a 5 seat SE L, maybe it's worth contacting Customer Services?

I don't understand the concept of a space saver spare wheel. Surely space needs to be allocated to accommodate the full size road wheel when it comes off the vehicle?

My previous car was a 7 seater with no spare wheel so I kept a full size spare in the boot which pretty much took up the entire boot and rendered the third row of seat unusable so it was fortuitous I never needed to use the third row. I learnt my lesson though and now won't buy a car that does not have space dedicated to accommodating the full size road wheel. Of course it depends how often one expects to need to change a wheel. I drive on terrible roads so I get many punctures.

It's a trade off. Like probably most people, I need to carry a boot load of stuff more frequently than I have punctures. Most cars seem to spend most of their time driving half empty. It's a gamble over whether you have enough space if the worst happens. I've had a couple of punctures over the last couple of years. On the first occasion the dog + cage was in the boot but the rear seats were free. So I changed the wheel and dropped the rear seats to accommodate the punctured full size wheel. On the second occasion we were travelling 4 up with a full boot, so it took a bit of creative reorganisation to make space for the punctured wheel. The rest of the journey was a bit cramped for the rear passengers, but we made it home.

Worst case is you might need to call a friend or knock on someone's door to ask them to look after the wheel until you can get back for it. A risk/hassle you may or may not be prepared to take. Fortunately you have the choice over whether to fill the boot, or leave enough space to accommodate a wheel just in case.

It's a trade off if you need seven seats, but no trade-off if you only need 5 seats because the space under the boot floor will take a full size wheel in a 5 seater car. That was the mistake I made with my former 7 seater hence I won't buy a seven seater again unless it will take a full size spare wheel. Of course spare wheels should not be anywhere near the inside of a car. The road wheel is quite likely to be wet, probably muddy and certainly overed in brake dust so belongs in a cage slung under the car at the back. Land Rover seem to have it right, they all seem to have the wheels under the back of the car and my many (small) cars of years ago did it the same way. Quite apart from the muck it is also much easier to change a wheel when it mounts outside the car, much less lifting to do, much less unpacking of the boot and much less back strain trying to get the wheel in the hole without scratching its delicate alloy surface. The Kodiaq has big wheels and I can confirm they are very heavy!

You sound like you should be applying to Skoda as a car designer so you can tell them why you think they're getting it wrong.

Where the spare wheel is stored is also a trade off. Outside the car and it's vulnerable to theft. Inside the car and it's harder to get to.

A car wheel is far from the dirtiest thing that goes in my car's boot. *stares meaningfully at dog*

It's not limited to Skoda, my wife's spare goes in the boot under the floor too as do lots of cars. Her wheel is also full size. It must be possible to secure external spare wheels, surely it is possible to have a locking mechanism that is acceptably secure, perhaps requiring access to the boot to release.

Just the other day a friend of one of my children was staring into my car for ages as it was parked at their school. When I asked later what they had found so interesting I was told "they couldn't get over how clean it was inside". I laughed but as their car is only about a year old I can only wonder what happens in their car! Long may my car remain squeaky clean.

As regards car design, Skoda did ask me to fill in a questionnaire and I did set them right on a few issues.

I look forward to seeing Skoda's new model line up incorporating your design ideas. What should I be looking out for? :ugeek:

Are you sure they weren't looking for the service manual, so they could count the stamps?

Is that all? I expected major improvements, but that's a backward step.
